Hi you guys! I’m Jackie here coming to you for another Mid-Week motivation. Actually I just wanted to do this today to share with you a day in my life so to speak, to walk you through how my day normally is and I thought the best place to do it is from my laptop. So I’m going to be dragging this around.
So great to have you! I’m Jacky from GetOnlineGetKnown.com. Sometimes you’re wondering, okay, so do I have what it takes to be an entrepreneur or can I actually run an online business or what does it mean to actually work from home or be home-based.
Because what I do is help entrepreneurs get themselves out there and get their market to know about them and become visible and just put themselves out there and I also work from home.
So I consult, I coach, I do all sorts of things and I just wanted to show you what it looks like for me. It might look very different for someone else but maybe it’ll be a motivation for you and you may see “Okay it’s not so difficult, it’s actually possible”. So this is a behind-the-scene, more like I wanted to give you guys a sneak peek into my life.
So this is actually my bedroom this is where it all starts obviously.
I wake up in the morning right there and I’m trying to become a bit more consistent with my morning routine because, what I’ll do, I’ll normally have my TV right there and I’ll make some space there to do some exercise and I like to do a lot of heart pumping aerobics, I use the Seven-minute Fitness which is a great Android app. I think it’s also on iPhone as well or on iOS as well. I love it, it’s got great really quick seven-minute workouts that you can do. I also have something I do outside which is a trampoline but that’s how it starts. That’s my morning routine.
Before I get out of bed I like to also meditate. I’m currently using the Bible app which I really love. It’s got some great meditations that you can do during the morning. I love that and for you maybe you want to tried some other thing but what I’ve noticed is meditation just sets me up, it starts me off in the right way because you guys know this whole thing about mindset. If you get started right in the morning they really help. For me I found that the day’s that I don’t meditate, the day that I just don’t pause and really focus on the gift that God has given me and how I’m using that gift and how He’s enabling me and everything then the day doesn’t go according to plan.
That’s what I start with. I’m just gonna walk you through my house, it might be a little bit dark but that’s where it starts.
The next thing I do is breakfast but when I do want to get ready then I’ll do that of course in my bathroom and everything. I’m not going to show you that.
I’ll just walk you through to the family area. What I like to do is sit with my kids and my husband in the morning for breakfast. I’m walking you through to my dining area, that’s where we sit for breakfast and I must say that this atrium that you can see behind me. This is at the center of our home and it really features for me a whole lot in everything I do because I like to be in light. I like to be in warmth. I like to be in a place with light, I figure that light is life, really when you’re in a place with greenery.
I’m trying to get some good lighting. I like to spend my time here either seated at the dining table right there or sometimes I’ll be working down in the bar which is a standing desk sort of, I’ll show you the standing area.
You know this is my life. Sometimes I work in the bar right here because I like to stand. I’ve noticed that standing and working keeps me more alert, I find that I was having bad posture because that’s something that I’ve been trying to work on, just posture because really when your posture is okay then you don’t have all these aches and pains that come. So trying to work on my posture, trying to work on standing. I I read this article, as I said, that said it doesn’t matter how much exercise you do if you’re sitting the entire day. That’s actually the biggest thing that will bring you just poor health. So I like to stand when I’m working where possible. I do that in the bar right there.
So as I was saying, I was just showing you my routines’s. I normally have my breakfast right there with the family. When they leave, I’ll sit right and keep working and then get ready much later. But one thing I found is really important when you’re working from home is that you do need to get up and get going. Rather than just sit and spend your days in your pyjamas, trust me it’s a mind thing. Like when you’ve been here for days in your pyjamas, you would actually not feel like you’re getting work done right?
I check a bit of email check, a bit of IM’s on Facebook that kind of thing then I’ll go and I get ready and shower for the day. When I come back and sit right here, this is actually where I love to work right here on my dining table because I find that as I was saying earlier it really gives me a great view.
It gives me let me just really feel a lot of happiness and life I suppose when I’m somewhere that’s green, somewhere in the Sun occasionally.
I also stand outside, this is the outside area where I tend to sit and I’ll come and I’ll hang out here as well. I don’t sit here as much but it’s also a bar area where I can actually stand.
When I’m trying to do more standing when I’m working, I’ll stand here and I’ll work here. So my morning routine is normally I like to do work on my computer, I like to just focus on things usually either content development and content creation.
My approach is called blocking and tackling which is a principle of productivity that I learned from my productivity trainer and that helps me. The previous night I’ll decide what am I going to work on and I have this great app by the way which I just started using which is perfect and it’s the first thing I do when I log on to my email.
It tells me, it asks me so what’s your focus for the day so I just plug that in there to help me keep focused. I plug that in there, what’s your focus of the day, I put in two – four main things I want to accomplish in the day and then once I accomplish them, every time once I get that done. then I tick it off. And the great thing is the next morning the app ask’s me the same thing plus it also shows me what I was able to do or not do. It actually brings back what I was not able to accomplish the previous day, that’s the great thing about it.
I find that when I’m able to start my day really focused and when I’m able to do focus on what I’m working on, I find that I don’t lose so much time. You guys may have heard of this thing called context switching. That every time you start working on something and then you move to working on something else you’re losing time every time you switch to a new thing. Let’s say you’re sending emails and then you switch to creating a PowerPoint presentation you’ve lost 20% of your time and I learnt this from Todd Herman. It’s an amazing concept so I try to block and tackle which means I start off my day focusing on specific things and mainly things that really require intense work.
Then let me also show you my office while we’re at it. But I really like to work at my dining table and bar during the day time and then at lunch I will go pick up my kids. I’m about to go do that in a few minutes because it’s almost my lunch time but before I do that, I’m just walking out of my house because I have my office which is separated from the house and I hope the connection won’t drop but I’ll just show you.
This is my office… So that’s where I normally sit. Yes so that’s where I normally sit and I have my laptop propped up there for when I want to do calls and that kind of thing. It’s quiet you know so I have that set up primarily just for working and I have there Gabriella who’s helping me at the moment. She’s assisting me with my work and I just find it really useful to have a spot that’s separate from the house because this is literally separate from the house and I’m able to sit here especially in the afternoon when my kids are around. I’m able to sit here do my work, focus and they can be playing inside the house and it’s quite removed because if you see, I literally step out of my office which is located there and that’s my front yard you can see behind me, my gate. And then I walk back into the house through there.
So that’s how that works. So like I was saying I like to block and tackle and occasionally I will have meetings like this morning of course I had a meeting. I have a Bible study that I normally do every Wednesday so I go for that every Wednesday and then I also have like tomorrow I have a meeting in the morning. So there will be mornings that I do have meetings but I try to push my meetings to the afternoons as much as possible.
I’ve got it all blocked off for my calendar until 11 am in the morning I’m not taking any meetings. And then from 11 a.m. onwards, if people want to book a time to chat with me then the availability is really only afterwards, from 11 am going forward. I’m using all these different tools that help me just manage my time okay I’m using Rescue time as well to help me track what I’m using my time for.
And that’s just it, I suppose when it comes to the nitty-gritty of the work.
It really has to do with if I have any specific clients, if I have any deadlines or any proposals that I need to send out, any calls or follow-ups that I need to make, it’s all very much client driven. There’s a lot of what I do that’s driven by the clients that I’m working with. I also have weekly coaching calls with those on my mastermind so in case you don’t know about that I’m gonna put a link so that you can learn more about it but maybe get on the call with me as well.
But I just wanted to show you guys a bit about the behind the scenes of my day and I do want to take really long to do it but just to show you that some of the tips that I’ve used to just stay focused, and consistency is number one. Just always getting up, getting ready like as if I was going to the office and number two, just really having a separate space where I can focus and that space right now is during the morning, the space is normally at my dining table right there but in the afternoons when the kids are back from school then that will normally be in my office just where I can actually go through the door and get work done.

Don't just take my word for it, or do. Either way, here's what other people have felt about working with me.
Jackie gave me listening ears. She was very patient with me and I was able to pour out my thoughts without feeling or sounding stupid about the challenges I am experiencing in my contract cleaning and pest control business. It was so easy to connect with her. A few days before the call, I had wanted to cancel because I kept wondering what we'll be discussing for a straight 45 minutes and became jittery knowing I would be talking to a total stranger. The VIP business breakthrough phone session lasted for 45 minutes. My take homes from our session together were HUGE. Thank you, Jackie for giving. I am running straight-away to put these tips into action
Motunrayo Obajimi, Owner, Albatre Moi Services, Port-Harcourt, Rivers State, Nigeria
“It came just in the nick of time and the offer was amazing!”
“Having recently started a page on social media for our business, I found the engagement on a digital platform really enhanced our customer service and was a great way to answer queries raised by clients. The set up and roll out was so easy, it was almost too good to be true! This is what SMEs like mine need to help with our digital visibility. Now we exude this professional aura that is only attracting more customers to our thriving business!"
Charles Macharia,CEO, Macrence Pharmacy
This was refreshing! Jackie has an absolute gift at what she does - she was able to draw me out to talk about what I know and what I am facing. It was definitely something I needed and I look forward to working with her more.
I have grown my businesses to multiple five figures in under 15 months and help entrepreneurs do the same.
I have worked as a digital and knowledge management consultant for over 15 years mainly for large international organisations like the United Nations, and now for online businesses.
I've worked in training, digital and web strategy and have a passion for helping people find out their potential and realize it. If you work with me, one thing is for certain, you will learn how to use your strengths for your online business and make your weaknesses opportunities (yes, you can bet we'll do at least one personality test!).
I'm taking the best of what I've learnt over the years, and I am giving it you with my mastermind.

Mike Kaniu,Director, Entrepreneur, Investor and Seasoned Business Executive. Passionate about Real Estate, Technology and Sales!
“Jackie is a pleasure to work with. She is a hard worker, talented, reliable, friendly and espouses a cooperative and goal-oriented attitude."
Elena Facchini, Principle Health Consultant at Crown Agents
"I had a great time with Jacquee. I felt very comfortable, as if talking to a friend. She created a warm environment and I felt comfortable enough to talk about some of the things I feel need to be dealt with. She asked the right questions, made constructive comments and suggested great tools."
Or you may have always wanted to have a business. But you’ve always thought that you need funding or investment to start one. That’s what I thought too. Till I discovered that in actual fact, you can start a business from scratch with completely no money. And I want to share with you 10 ways to that.
Are you excited yet? This means that you start that dream business and if it takes off, yay! That Caribbean holiday is in the bag. If it’s profitable, super yay! And if not, no harm done. Moving on.
Airbnb is making everyone an entrepreneur. No matter where you live in the world, there’s definitely someone looking for a place to stay there. So put up your room and pay nothing unless someone rents your place. That’s the best way to do any kind of business. With no overheads. I mean, you do need to live somewhere. You can charge as high or as low as you like. There’s tree houses that rent for upwards of $240 a night! Actually, I just checked and the one that was renting for $240 a night last year is now renting for $375 a night! Talk about laughing all the way to the bank! The trick is to make your guest’s experience as memorable as possible. Think unique and edgy, or ultra luxurious and dreamy. You’ll be well on your way to making a killing on Airbnb.
2. Become an affiliate for online products
This is absolutely brilliant! Not only is it 100% free, you can earn money from high affinity goods without ever having to deal with inventory. In the space of 2 months, I’ve earned $211.65 USD from simply sharing links to products I LOVE and use. And products that I know other people in business will also love. Examples are software as a service subscriptions, business tools and services. Pretty much anything that you have to pay for online that does not need delivery. They are high are growing more and more popular daily. Platforms like JvZoo and Appsumo are amazing in this regard. They regularly run crazy promotions that can get you earning anything from hundreds to thousands of dollars monthly. All this from simply sharing the links with your networks and contacts. I personally use Appsumo deals alot to gather an arsenal of business tools at a fraction of the cost. I firmly believe that when you use something and love it, you are more genuine in promoting it. This is where a lot of MLM’s fail where they don’t lead with value first. And also why alot of people in MLM’s don’t come right out to let you know that are promoting something. Alot of the things that I share will save business owners 1,000s of dollars a year. And they have for me. So I can highly recommend them whether or not I get a commission. That’s the secret sauce in successful affiliate promotions. Affiliate commissions vary, they start from 12% on Appsumo and can go upto 30% or 50% on both JvZoo and Appsumo. And the best part is, they’ve got all the marketing copy covered so all you need to do is copy, paste and profit. What’s not to love?
3. Sell coaching and consulting
This is the number 1 fastest growing sector where you can get started with no money down. To do this, take a look at the skills that you have and package them into consulting offers or coaching offers. Think of what you are currently paid for in your job. Or what people always ask you about that you are passionate about. Chances are there are people that would pay you to show them how to do it, or to have you do it for them.
To make it super quick to start getting professional offers, open a free account over at Better Proposals. It comes with amazing, ready made template proposals that cover just about anything. I’m talking social media management to house design and construction. On the free plan you can send out 1 proposal a month, so it’s perfect for testing the waters. Once you’ve lined up prospective clients, reach out to them using this LinkedIn messaging strategy that is guaranteed to get you your first client in the next 30 days. The trick is to get on a call with them and pitch them your offer. You can schedule appointments easily using Calendly. Link it up to your calendar, choose your availability and shoot your potential clients your schedule link to start bringing in the money.
And if you’re worried about how to get payment from abroad, WorldRemit is there to help. You can get bank or mobile money payments from and to many countries worldwide.
4. Sell an information product
Once you’ve systematized your consulting know-how into steps, it’s time to turn it into an information product. The idea is that anyone can use the same steps to get the same, or similar results that you offer. your next port of call is to sell your knowledge as an info product. It involves packaging your knowledge into a product, program or course. You then sell it to those that are looking for the exact outcome that your know-how will provide them. They may be people that cannot afford your consulting or coaching fee. Or people that want to DIY. The beauty of this is that you can sell it BEFORE it is ever produced and in that wayconfirme whether it’s a product that people will buy. This is called product validation. So you never have to create it if no-one ever expresses interest in it, no harm, no foul! There are many ways to package your know-how into a product, Teachable has by far the best guide on how to package your know-how into a course, grab it here.
5. Offer a delivery or errand service
Businesses that are innovating are killing it and one of those innovations is bringing the product to the customer. If product delivery is not yet well ingrained in your locality, you can start a business in this area. You can cash in on a fast expanding market of business owners that are moving online in product sales. Many business owners that I speak to face a challenge of not being able to get their product to their customer. This solves that problem. And it’s enough of a pain to them that will pay for it.
Being a travel, sales, loan, insurance or investment agent or broker is a great way to start making sales without needing any money down. Find a product that you personally use and love and ask if there is a way to sell it for a commission. This is a twist on being an affiliate because you become a representative of the product and company in your area. Go for trusted and tried products that will always be needed and make your mark by being visible in your networks.
7. Become a social media manager
This is definitely a money maker. This 23 year old runs a million-dollar social media management agency. That’s your proof. And she runs it virtually. It’s as simple as offering to manage the social media presence of small businesses in exchange for a fee. In essence it’ss the most easy consulting gig you can ever land if you are social media savvy. And anyone with a smart phone can learn these skills if they don’t have it already. Business are learning more and more that they need to be paying attention to social media. There’s a large paycheck waiting for the people that will jump on this a way to make money.
8. Become a social media influencer
Once you know what’s working in social media, why not use it to your advantage and become a social media influencer? It may take a bit more work upfront by growing your social media following. This you would do in the following ways.
Once you decide on the theme of your social media presence, get to work building a following around that theme. Travel, Health and Wellness, Business, Family or Relationships are all great themes to start with. To build an engaged social media following you will need to leverage online tools for follower growth and engagement and scheduling your posts. Or do it yourself. Once you’ve built a solid following upwards of 10,000 followers you can approach brands in your area to partner and get the message in front of your followers. This could create a $10,000-$25,000 windfall in your business if you do it right.
9. Host a Virtual Summit and sell a back-end product
Companies and entrepreneurs alike are using virtual summits, to grow a following and generate sales for their products. And you know that they must be in on some secret that the rest of us are not capitalizing on. That secret is that todays currency is authenticity and connectedness. Talking in front of a camera for 1 hour to your potential prospects is as authentic and connected as it gets. And it’s 100% FREE. Yes, you heard that right. You can run a virtual summit is 4 simple steps 1) Determine your topic, 2) Recruit influencers and experts 3) Get the influencers and experts to recruit attendees and 4) Run the live sessions and sell products and services to attendees on or after the summit.
All these steps are free, because all you need is a Facebook page OR YouTube channel and optionally a landing page or website and an email provider. But all that’s taken care of by using your Facebook Page, a Facebook Group and messenger bots like those at Manychat. That way you wont need an email sign-up form at all! You would create a live event for each summit session on your Facebook page using a scheduler like Belive.
You can also use your YouTube channel and run the live event via hangouts where your expert interviewees join in the hangout with you. You would then embed the youtube video(s) on your landing page, which you can create via free website platforms like wordpress.org or blogger. You can embed sessions even before carrying out your hangout. For live sessions or pre-recorded sessions embedded, the video will only play once the live session starts and attendees will view them in real time.
And if you want to get really fancy, use this Facebook Live tool , Ecamm, that allows you to broadcast from your DSLR cam in hgh quality, to schedule lives, to play recorded audio as a live video and many more other cools features for a one time cost of $29. This way you can even get the attendees into a Facebook group and share your facebook lives in there. And pair it up with this $1 trial of Webinarjam which is my fave webinar platform, that gives you 60 days to use ALL the features, including streaming to Facebook live with your slides and running automated, just-in-time webinars.
If you’d like to be a little more fancy then head over to Fast comet and grab a hosting package that comes with a FREE domain of your choice, and bam! For less than $3 a month, you’ll have a money making machine. As for products, get affiliate products that are related to the summit topic you chose, market them on the summit and you are on your way to profiting! As an extra bonus, once you have recruited anything upwards of 1,000 people, target a corporate sponsor to the tune of $5,000-20,000. Kaching! Oh, and you may want to have a way to track everyone that signs up, and to capture their email addresses while you are it. For this Mailerlite will be perfect for you, it’s 100% free for under 1,000 contacts. Plus it also lets you set up a landing page for free in case you prefer to have everything on one platform. You’ll need a domain though, so in case you decide that you’d rather just get your domain for $12 on Namecheap then use the in-built landing pages on Mailerlite, you’ll be all set, for just $1 a month in total!
10. Drop shipping and selling imported goods
Alot of people feel that drop shipping is only for people living in Europe or the US. Not true. The nature of this business is that you never have to interact with the product so you can do it from anywhere in the world. Heather Katsonga-Woodward of Neno Natural build a multiple five-figure business selling to a different continent than she lives. And so can you. I recently talked to entrepreneur in Kenya who is selling products 100% online is making monthly revenues approaching five-figures. And all this is being done in their house and as a one-person show. It is being done and it is possible. Want to know how? Keep reading and I’ll let you know how to get the help you need.
Well there you have it. 10 ways to creating a business with NO money. Are you ready to go out and build that business? If you’re feeling inspired but still a little unsure, I’ve got you. I’m running a “Build Your Dream Business” challenge starting Monday, 25th September. Click here to sign up for the challenge. In 5 days you will go from no idea, to your first sales page, sales call or client.
It’s 3.29 am on a Saturday morning and I’m sitting at my computer applying for a job. It’s a consultant job at the United Nations, and pretty much the only kind of job that I’ll do these days. Don’t get me wrong, it’s not because I don’t need the money, because I do. I have big dreams, and I am boot strapping those dreams, so the money will always be welcome.
The reason why it’s the only job I’ll ever do these days is because it gives me time to work on my other pursuits. In the past 4 weeks I have applied to 3 positions. All part time consulting positions, all squarely in my area of expertise, that I absolutely enjoy. It’s like how we used to break out the crayons as kids to color on white paper, the web is my canvas and html snippets and web apps are my crayons. And I have been called for an interview on 1 of them, and by the time you read this, it may be 2 of them. (Update: I got called for an interview for 2 of them).
I realize that being called for a job interview 2 out of 3 times is not exactly every time. But it’s the times that I don’t get called that I realize I should have trusted my gut instinct and not applied for that position. You know the feeling I’m talking about. That feeling that warns you that buying that lottery ticket is setting you back a few dollars and is most likely not going to pan out. Or that feeling that if you spend this money on this trip, you may be in the red for a long time. Or that feeling that tells you that you really should get that crack in your car windscreen fixed now, or risk paying way more if you delay. I’ve learnt to listen to that instinct and it’s served me well. In my job applications, it’s the one that tells me that the job is either not really open for candidates, or that I’d be a poor candidate for the job.
1. Find out if they are really looking for someone to interview someone for the job
Case in point, I have been hired in the past by an organisation that had already identified me as their preferred candidate. All they needed was a rubber stamp to show that I was the best, or to meet an organizational rule so they had to put out a job advert. In these cases, organizations can go one of two routes. They can either make the requirements ridiculously specific such that no one else will come close to qualifying. Or they will make them so broad that there is really no hope of finding a candidate in the pool that actually fits the job. Which means their preferred candidate still comes out on top. And that’s only in cases where the position is already spoken for. If you are in doubt, it’s best to apply and ask questions later. Or if you are really bold, find the hiring manager on LinkedIn and get their email address using Hunter.io. Then drop them a line asking if they have someone in mind already or if you can apply. I always say, it makes your name familiar to them, and you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
In most cases though, it will be a genuine recruitment. And the number one way they will use to filter you out during shortlisting is your years of experience. Please note that while they have said they’d like 3 years of under/post graduate experience, what they actually mean is this. Look at your current or previous job roles and pull out the exact things you do or did that match this particular job you are applying for. Next, figure out what percentage of time you spent doing these exact things. For example, I developed web modules as 30% of my tasks as a Knowledge Management Officer at UNDP in 2012. Next determine how much time you spent on the job if it was part-time. If it was full-time, then add up the number of years on that job and get 30% of those years. That will help you figure out how much experience you have in that area. For me, that would have worked out to 1 year of experience, if I was working full-time for 3 years at that job. It gets tricky when you work part-time as a consultant which I do alot of these days. You’ll start dealing with fractions and the like, so make an estimate and round it up or down to the year. When in doubt, round it downwards. The main point is, your 2+ years of experience, well, it’s not quite 2+ years of experience. Unless you are applying to a role that is exactly like the one that you have right now. Oh, and you can do the same for your post graduate study, it does count towards your years of experience, but only if the job calls for a Bachelors degree. If it calls for a Masters, and you’ve studied full time to get your Masters, then no can-do. If you studied while working, throw that time you worked in there, you earned it!
So for starters, when certain organisations, like the UN, call for a certain number of years of experience, take it seriously.
2. Trust your gut, do you meet the requirements for the job interview?
Next, trust your gut. Once you’ve trained it to be brutally honest and once you start to actually READ the job requirements, it will guide you will. Yes, you do need to speak French for this role. Though this too you could bypass in the rare situation – one of the jobs that I applied for and got 5 years ago required French, but guess what? I applied (after the deadline) and got the job without French. I’m still working on my French though, you never know when it will come in handy.
The one trick that you need to know to get called for a job interview every-time is simple. Write your cover letter like a sales letter. And yes, that means you can tease your readers to want to meet you to find out that one trick to increasing their ranking in google search results. Or why it would surprise them which hosting you would choose over cloud hosting and on-location hosting. Or how you envision some new modules that will get their site in front of the right users. A disclaimer though, this will only work if you meet the least requirements that will get you past the shortlist. That’s because human resources will do the shortlist and they have no idea what you do, what you could be capable of doing if you got the job, and they frankly don’t much care. To them you are one name among hundreds, and they need to be able to tick all checkboxes to make sure that you qualify to get to the next stage. Be brutally honest, and as clear as you possibly can about your years of experience, your academics and your skills if any of them are in the list of requirements. In fact, put them in the exact same words that the job advertisement needs, that’s you free checklist right there. It’s like having the answers to the exam questions. I’m not saying lie, because that won’t work. When you are caught out you could be blacklisted by the organization which would be much worse than missing out on one little job interview.
3. Write your cover letter like a sales letter, the one thing that will get you your next job interview
So back to the one trick that you need to know to get called for a job interview every-time. Write your cover letter like a sales letter, and tease your readers to want to meet you to find out that one trick you know. See, the reason for this is that no likes to miss out, also known as FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out). And not least your interviewers. Since the position is open for hire, that shows you that there is a skill that is missing from the organization that it is hiring for. So when you are hired, you should be an expert in your field.
Even if they are not too impressed with your CV, and they better be, if they have even a small inkling that you have information or knowledge that is critical to their organisational process, they will call you in. That does not necessarily mean that they think you are the one for the job, but that’s where what you say at your job interview is very important. That’s where you let them know that you ARE the one for the job because if they don’t hire you then they will not have this intelligent, versatile, creative and driven individual who is as passionate about their organization as you are. Because you’ve read at least 3 or 10 of their recent reports on the area they are interviewing you for. Heck, reading a company report in ANY area will put you head and shoulders above most interviewees.
So in a nutshell, the one trick is write your cover letter like a sales letter, learn how to write a sales letter here, it’s a book on How to Write Copy that Sells by Ray Edwards that is now my bible when it comes to writing copy. And what better way to apply this than through selling yourself as a candidate. With some tweaks of course. And then make sure you also do the below to make sure you are not chasing up the wrong tree.
1. Find out if they are really looking for someone
2. Trust your gut, if you get that feeling in the pit of your stomach that you don’t meet the minimum requirements, don’t apply
3. Reach out if you have questions
4. And don’t forget to write your cover letter like a sales letter

Ignore These 3 Things And Your Business Doesn’t Stand A Chance
Give them their due, and you’ll be singing all the way to the bank
A few days ago I had a very enlightening Business Breakthrough session with a young entrepreneur. They’ve been in business for 5 years but have not been seeing the growth that they wanted to see. And the main thing they knew they should have been doing more of, without a doubt, was marketing.
It reminded me of my family’s recent Easter trip away. We decided with only 3 days to go that we needed a break from the grind (I don’t recommend this to anyone, last minute holidays are not as sexy as they sound). We bought the tickets and booked the place to stay only 48 hours to our departure, it was like a scene from the Fast and the Furious! Now, usually when booking a vacation place I’ll window shop like mad before I settle on one. We’re talking Booking.com, TripAdvisor, Airbnb and Expedia — which is my absolute favorite for flights, but thats another story. The thing was, this time for some reason I made a bee-line to Airbnb and booked on there. Later on, once we arrived at our holiday destination, I could not stop kicking myself. See, I went back on Booking.com and found many other places that would have been a great fit for our family and at a much better price point. I had classic buyers remorse. But what puzzled me was just why I did not look at the other sites like I usually did.
We rent out our vacation home Upani in Diani on Airbnb. We actually get at least 50% of our bookings on Airbnb, so I am always on the site, in one form or another. Responding to enquiries, sending enquiries or checking out the competition (you know you do it too). So when I needed to rent a place for our family’s holiday, it was natural to go back to Airbnb, they were “top of mind”, as online marketing experts like to call it.
Never mind that their deals may not have been the best ones price wise. They were top of mind. And there-in lies the power of marketing.
You want to be top of mind for all your potential customers.
In fact there are three things you can’t ignore if you want your business to flourish. Whether it’s only just getting off the ground, or you are deciding if you will take a new path. These three things are your Mindset, your Message, and your Marketing.
And the greatest of these is marketing. The way in which you will share the other two with the world.
I credit Mike Kim for this particular lesson. He has the number one podcast in personal branding on iTunes. I recently attended an online bootcamp that he put together and it was phenomenal. You should totally check it out on his site if you get a chance, it’s amazing. In the bootcamp he outlines these 3 things as the main pillars of your success as an entrepreneur and I 100% agree with this since it represents most of what brought me success in business early on.
Marketing is the reason that Trump made it to the White House despite not being the most popular candidate. He was undeniably top of mind. It’s how you will let your customers know about your products. And get this — it even trumps price when rubber meets the road and your client needs your service like yesterday, pun very much intended! Plus do you doubt that the world listens when he tweets?
The number one way of being top of mind with your current and new prospects is social media.
In one month alone, I got 14.8K tweet impressions of my content on Twitter in Feb 2017.
I consistently see that the more I tweet, the more I’m seen, the more I remain top of mind. And thats money in the bank. In fact, tweeting is how I got my first coaching client. They were not yet on my mailing list, but they followed my tweets, liked what I had to say, reached out and hired me at our first meeting.
But what if you don’t have time OR ideas on what to tweet? There are really great tools available out there that help you 10x your results on social media with 1/10th of the effort. Some of my favorite ones that I use everyday are Buffer, IFTTT.com and Canva. Not a week goes by that I’m not fiddling in Buffer, creating recipes in IFTTT.com or creating graphics in Canva. What I love most about these programs is the ability to ‘set it and forget it’. You can decide on your content for the week, queue that content up, and then sit back as it drip’s out to your social media accounts.
Another product that I just started using last week is Missingletr. I got it through a great deal from Appsumo.com. It auto-generates a years worth of tweets and LinkedIn posts with images and auto-queues them for you. And did I mention it was automatic? Since your time is money, and getting in front of people means money, this will both save you and make you a ton this year.
It may not be available at the life-time offer I got it at by the time you read this but do head on over to Appsumo.com for other great deals that will super charge your marketing.
And do check back for my next post about the next of the 3 things that you can’t afford to ignore.
